Danish Dynamite Tour
Last week I mentioned I was a little tired of Americana, rootsy-folk-rock bands. Seeing the Old 97's at Waterloo Records didn't help the situation. They weren't bad. I just was more focused on the free Shiner Bock than I was the band.
I guess it's good timing then that my next show is Efterklang, Slaraffenland, and Balmorhea. This will not be your typical Austin show. The two headliners hail from Denmark and are currently on the "Danish Dynamite Tour" (think Monsters of Rock tour, except Scandinavian). Balmorhea is from Austin but their music has much in common with the headliners. Each group incorporates elements of rock, jazz, and classical (and yes even some folk) that's tough to categorize. Post-rock? Minimalist? Experimental? Whatever it is, I'm just glad it's something different.

How was the crowd for the Old 97's at Waterloo?
The set they did at SXSW was really, really poorly attended, which I found surprising given that Austin is a "hometown" gig for them.
There was a big crowd for them. There was even a line outside when they started just after 5:00 pm.
I guess people like them better when they play for free and the beer is complimentary.
I didn't see the Old 97s at Waterloo because I can see them anytime and I wanted to see a band that I never get to see. I have seen them at ACL before, though, and they were great.
Balmorhea? Sounds like an STD.
Potsy, didn't you get the Balmorhea once from that Haitian refuge you slept with....

He's saying that you entered a refuge full of Haitian refugees, and had sex with all of them (men, women, and children), and acquired an STD in the process.
oh yeah. I remember now that you've explained it for me...I hope I didn't pass it on to your mom
