They Are Man Man, Hear Them Roar Roar

A few years ago a number of friends went to see Okkervil River play at Iota. The opinion of Okkervil River varied but they were in agreeance (that's Durst speak) about one thing: the opening band was atrocious. My neighbor Sage said they were so bad it made her angry. My buddy Jason said they were the worst band he has ever seen. So who were these guys? Everyone's favorite experimental rock goofballs, Man Man.

I checked out their stuff a few years back and it did seem annoying. I mean, who uses a kazoo as standard instrument in their songs? I wasn't impressed. Then I saw their performance at the Pitchfork Music Festival in 2006:

I can see how people would find that annoying but it seems fun to me. The white get-ups and war paint are strange but the song is freakishly odd and bombastic. Plus, as I've stated time and time again, I'm a huge fan of dual drummers (when properly utilized).

I listened to Man Man's new album, Rabbit Habits, and while corny and vaudevillian, it's quite good. Maybe I had low expectations but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed each song.

All this blabbering brings me to the point of the post. This afternoon I'm walking down to Waterloo Records here in Austin to see Man Man play a free show. Will they be entertaining or irritating? We'll see. Either way, I'm glad I get to judge for myself.

Dumbass, you missed the most obvious:

They Are Man Man, Hear Them Roar Roar

Rookie error and I would think at this point you wouldn't be making mistakes like this. Please change it immediately, it's not too late.

I like it. I'm using it.

BTW, it's more suprising when I post something w/o any glaring errors. Instead of getting better, my posts have steady got worse over the past few years. It's called "lack of effort".

Case in point, I mean to say "steadily" not "steady".

Have I mentioned that I'm a highly functioning retard?

You also misspelled "surprising."

I am going to organize a benefit concert for you.

One last example of my idiocy: Man Man's in store concert is not tonight. It was on Wednesday.

FUCK.

Looks like I'm going to see Tapes n' Tapes at Antones instead.

Functional, you tard, functional. Functioning is a verb, functional is an adjective. An adjective is a word that modifies a noun. A noun is a person, place or thing--like retard.

I'm starting to take issue with HIGHLY as well.

Edna might be right. How about barely functional?

What can I say? I'm the Nigel Tufnel of Rock Club.

Also, all your Jimi Hendrix "double entendres" were in fact puns, and not double entendres. Just wanted to reiterate.

Commenters and lurkers, please join me in producing TARD-AID 2009. I'm assuming it will take until at least next year to set it up.

"Slice Aid" would work as well.

Also, I would like to disallow all English majors and schoolmarms from posting comments in the future. If you fall into either of those groups please identify yourself and allow me to ban you.

We will continue to accept grammar/spelling smack comments from spinster librarians, because they almost always somewhere down the road reveal themselves to be super hot and horny, usually once they've removed their glasses.

i think this is the first article on man man that doesn't reference tom waits in some way. so, you know, congratulations.

Yes, now that we've torn him down, let's build him back up again.

Jumbo, congratulations on tying your shoes this morning, in a double knot, no less.
