It's Tuesday and time to ponder blah blah blah...
Jimbromski once sent an email around to the rest of us where he declared that he "knew everything." Yet, when a conversation turned to the band Rusted Root not too long ago, he fell silent. Unbelievable, I know. He claimed he didn't know who we were talking about.
Me: "You know. Senmeonmway...?!"
Jimbromski: "What?"
Me: "Do-do-doot-de-do-do-Do-do-do-do-de-doot..."
Jimbromski: "You can do that all day, and I won't know what you're talking about. But go ahead, keep going."
As it turns out, Rusted Root played for Baltimore's "Artscape" this summer, which takes place in my dad's back yard.
My dad: "I heard this new band. They were great!"
Me: "Oh yeah."
My dad: "Yeah... have you heard of them? 'Rusty Roots.'"
I see that Rusted Root is playing at the 9:30 Club Monday, September 29th, so to be sure we're all remembering them right, this week's Youtubesday clip is the video for the only Rusted Root song I'll ever know.
I'll admit that I've never seen this video before now. But it's as I would have guessed. All sensibly spiritual. So there you go. Bust out your peyote and dream catchers for their show next month.

There's not much in my musical history that I'm flat-out ashamed about, but Rusted Root is definitely one of the lowest points of my musical fandom. Thankfully it only lasted a few month, but still...
What I still can't figure out after all this time is which is worse: that I owned and enjoyed the first Rusted Root album, or that I owned and enjoyed the first Slaughter album.
In my defense, I was young and naive.

Catchy stuff, I predict it'll be a hit
I was a HUGE Rusted Root fan. I wore their first CD out. I've seen them in concert more than any other band (with the possible exception of The D-Plan). Looking back, it's pretty cheesy hippie stuff but it's not as bad as say, The Spin Doctors. They're still pretty popular in Upstate NY (where I come from). Music trends move at a glacial pace there.
I'll thoroughly enjoyed the video. Excellent post, Potsy.
Sadly, 85% of my CD collection falls under the "I was young and naive" category. I could (and probably will) post a never ending sampling of some of the worst stuff I still have.
Though I managed to dodge Slaughter along the way. It was probably too cool for me at the time.
i spent my summers in pittsburgh (it's beautiful that time of year) until i was like 16 and those last few years i was trying to figure out if there were any good bands from pittsburgh (besides karl hendricks trio of course) and these kids at jew person camp told me rusted root so i was like ok i'll check them out and then i did and i was like well should i really have expected people at jew person camp to enlighten me to any good bands?
Well David, I think the kids at christ camp were making the same recommendation back then. It was the 90s and life was pretty happy-ghey-lucky...
I'm throwing this question out to all our Hebrewite readers: who's the number one Jew superstar rocker of all time?
It's early so the only name I'm coming up with is Gene Simmons but I'm sure there are others, more powerful, and more rockier.
I am sure there are many, but off the top of my head I am going to have to go with Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney.
What is the criteria? Does converted Jew count? Alhough not necessarily "rockin'", you can't overlook Bobby Zimmerman.

Wow - I've liked Senmeonmyway ever since it was on the Party of Five soundtrack (how's that for embarrassing?). But I've never seen this video before or actually known what the band looked like. I have to say that I like Rusted Root. Thanks for digging this up.
