Who gives a fuck about an Oxford Comma?

It's rare when I get to pick a RC show for which I am truly excited. And when it has worked out where I've been able to choose a show that I've really wanted to see, I always seem to miss it (The Gossip is the best example of this phenomenon). So at 11:30 tonight, when I saw that Vampire Weekend was playing at the RnRH in February during my week to pick, I made sure I wasn't going to miss out on this show for lack of forethought. I hopped in my car, and drove to the club and bought our tickets. Here they are...
So, it begs the question, "What will go wrong between December 18th and February 6th that will prevent me from seeing this band?" Hopefully nothing. But check back with me after Feb 6th. The Magic 8 Ball says, "Outlook not so good."

Anyhow, I know that Vampire Weekend is nothing new to the Indie Rock know-it-alls. They've even been featured on NPR. But I like to think that I have staked a claim to this band. I'm an investor of sorts. So I'm anxious for a solid show.

Below is a video for “Mansard Roof.” It is eerily reminiscent of 3/4 * RC's voyage to Newport, RI this summer, hence forth known as the "Club Crap" weekend. I got sea-sick on that trip. Jumboslice showed that he is a lazy fucker and slept most of the time. Sacklunch pulled more than his weight and proved himself to be quite the semen.

Well done Potsy. Sacklunch and I talked just the other night about getting tickets to VW before it sold out.

Mansard Roof is a great song but why are these guys so hyped? Do they even have an album out yet?

We got our tickets, too.

What's an Oxford Comma?!

I looked this up this morning. An Oxford comma is more commonly known as a "serial comma." It's when you put a comma before a conjunction in a list of three or more items.

Sentence with an Oxford comma:

Potsy is angry, bitter, and sad.

Sentence without:

Potsy is angry, bitter and sad.

There is no consensus among grammarians as to what the "official" rule is.

There is a Rock Club consensus that Potsy is angry/bitter/sad.

My colleague often refers to this as a "Harvard Comma." Not to be confused with my former colleague who is famous for her use of the term, "single-hyphen."

I happen to prefer this method of punctuation. So, as it happens, I do give a fuck. I find it more difficult to read sentences that forgo the "[Stuffy Institution of Higher Learning] Comma." Then again, I find it difficult to read anything.

Oh. I love the Oxford/Harvard comma. I am going to call it the Potsy Comma and mystify all of my colleagues who already think that I made up the term, "comma splice."
I might as well start making up crap and get some credit.

Do you think Motley Crue knows the difference between a Potsy Comma and a Harvard Comma?

Aw. Shucks. What an honor.

Better question is, "Do Motley Crue know the difference between a Potsy and a Harvard Coma?" Subtle, no?

By the way, Vampire Weekend have a song called "Oxford Comma." That's how this all started.
